Lead. Fall. Rise. Repeat: The Art of Becoming | Prachi Tehlan | TEDxIMTHyderabad
Prachi’s TEDx talk explores the theme of "awareness through transformation." She shares how her journey through sports, acting, and life has shaped who she is today. From overcoming obstacles to embracing new opportunities, Prachi emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, resilience, and the willingness to evolve. Her message to her audience is to recognize the power of self-transformation and to lead with purpose, whether in sports, business, or life itself. Prachi Tehlan is an inspiring entrepreneur, sportswoman, and advocate for women’s empowerment who is passionate about creating positive change through leadership and innovation. In her TEDx talk, she reflects on her journey of self-evolution, drawing inspiration from various chapters of her life – from being an athlete to an actor to a professional. Her story is one of perseverance, determination, and the constant renewal of self-awareness, encapsulated in the idea of Shashvatam Navachetanam – the continuous transformation of self.
Prachi’s journey began as a young basketball player representing Delhi, where she learned discipline, focus, and the importance of muscle memory through sports. Her dedication was evident in her daily routine, waking up at 5 a.m. to practice basketball for an hour and a half before school. However, her athletic career took an unexpected turn when an injury forced her to step back, marking the first pivotal moment in her life.Despite the setback, Prachi embraced the challenge, realizing that strength was not just about physical performance but about lifting oneself up after setbacks.
This resilience led to another turning point when Prachi was introduced to netball. With no prior experience, she took the chance, and through perseverance, was selected for the Commonwealth Games camp. Ultimately, she became the youngest captain of the Indian netball team, achieving a milestone she had never imagined as a young girl.Despite her success in sports, Prachi recognized the need for a career outside of athletics and pursued higher education, completing dual MBAs. She joined Accenture, first as an HR intern, and later as a consultant. However, her next big transformation came when she was offered an acting opportunity, leading her from the sports court to the world of entertainment. - 19:31Dungeons and Dragons as Education and Intervention | Kade Wells | TEDxSioux FallsNOTE FROM TED: This talk contains a discussion of graphic violence and suicidal ideation. Most everyone has heard of the game Dungeons and Dragons, but few understand what it actually is and how it works. Fewer still comprehend the significant impact that D&D has had on our society, and almost no one knows the profound academic and therapeutic benefits contained within the game.D&D is educational by the nature of its design. The game is played with books! Reading and understanding text are critical to playing the game. D&D is scaffolded, differentiated and gradually released, just as should always be with lessons in school. Kade was among the first to bring to the surface the fact that the game had a very serious academic design and this concept has begun to flourish among academic and game communities as well as families looking for an impactful pastime.D&D also possesses amazing therapeutic power. It’s been used in studies by many mental health specialists for everything from Autism to Trauma. Kade has seen first hand in the educational setting how all these components work together to form a surprising, but powerful educational and therapeutic tool. Kade Wells has been using D&D, game-theory, and product-based, experiential learning in the classroom for twelve years. He plays D&D with his students on Friday’s, and they have grown above the normal measure as a result. His hope is to help people understand the great power that D&D has in educational settings. - 15:20The Stories Crimes Tell: Listening Beyond the Evidence | Jon Carda | TEDxSioux FallsThe Stories Crimes Tell: Listening Beyond the Evidence explores Jon’s experience as a detective who uncovered hidden narratives through the art of listening—not just to words, but to silence, body language, and emotion. Evidence can reveal the what, but only listening uncovers the why. A confession may confirm guilt, but the hesitation, the shift in tone, or the unspoken fear reveals the deeper truth. Through years of interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, Jon learned that his most powerful tools weren’t his badge or authority, but curiosity, empathy, and patience. During his talk, Jon will take the audience inside the mind of a detective, sharing real stories of how careful listening exposed motives, elicited confessions, and revealed truths that evidence alone could not. He will demonstrate how the same listening techniques used in investigations can help us navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and better understand the world around us. Jon Carda served as a police officer for 31 years, including 11 years as a Detective in the Crimes Against Persons Unit, where he investigated cases of homicide, suicide, assault, and abuse. Jon has over 240 hours of specialized training in interview and interrogation techniques, he also completed advanced coursework in homicide investigation, statement analysis, and child forensic interviewing. As a lead detective on 22 homicides, Jon conducted more than 30 homicide suspectinterrogations and interviewed hundreds of individuals involved in child abuse cases. His expertise extends beyond investigation. Throughout his career, Jon ensured that every interview and interrogation he conducted stood up in court. His dedication to uncovering the truth through listening and analysis remains the foundation of his work.
