Bridging the legal gap in AI | Martijn Hendriks | TEDxROC Nijmegen

Lecturer in data science, law, and ethics, Martijn Hendriks explores how to navigate innovations like AI in areas not yet regulated by law. Using black holes as a metaphor for this legal vacuum, he presents his vision for how innovators, legal advisors, and ethicists can work together to make meaningful progress. He challenges us to form a multidisciplinary team guided by a specific set of principles. Additionally, Martijn advocates for a practical approach to ethics — transforming the legal vacuum into a bridge to the future. Martijn Hendriks is a former attorney with professional experience in both the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean. He currently serves as a lecturer in data science, law, and ethics at HAN University of Applied Sciences. In addition, he brings extensive experience in managing change within IT projects. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
